Key ideas
- Principal
- The amount actually borrowed, before interest is added.
- APR
- The annual percentage rate. Real APRs may fold in fees that a simple rate does not.
- Amortization
- Paying a loan down in level payments, where early payments are mostly interest.
- Extra payment
- Anything above the scheduled payment, which goes straight to principal.
Frequently asked questions
- How is the monthly payment calculated?
- With the standard amortization formula: the level payment that fully retires the principal over the term at the rate entered. At 0% it is simply the amount divided by the number of months.
- Does an extra monthly payment really save money?
- In this model, yes — it reduces principal sooner, so less interest accrues. Check whether a real loan charges a prepayment penalty before assuming the same.
- Why does a real quote differ from this estimate?
- Lenders add origination fees, insurance, and other costs, and the rate offered depends on your credit profile. This tool models only the numbers you typed.
- Does Saccone Legacy lend money?
- No. We are a consulting and education company. We do not approve, issue, or guarantee financing.
